What are Chemical Peels?
Chemical skin peels are an application of chemical solution to the skin to slough off the surface and middle layers of skin removing dead skin and debris. This process reveals fresher, smoother and brighter skin. They range in strength from light, medium to deep depending on the chemical used and the pH. A light peel (superficial) exfoliates the outer layer of skin cells improving fine lines, wrinkles, brightening and making the skin more radiant with no down time.
What chemicals are used in skin peels?
Chemicals such as alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), Polyhydroxy acid (PHA) or trichloroacetic acid (TCA) are used depending on the type of peel used. Our Peels are with a single acid or combination of AHAs, BHAs and PHAs. (AHAs) lactic acids and glycolic acid, (BHA) Salicylic, (PHA) gluconolactone acid. These are tailored around your skin type.
Will my skin be suitable for chemical peels?
Before any skin peel you will receive a full consultation to make sure the chemical peel is a suitable treatment for you. We will discuss your skincare routine and how your skin functions. Your skin may need some preparation before it is ready for a peel. We have a selection of peels some are very mild and may be suitable for more sensitive skin types.
What can I expect during the treatment?
A chemical solution of skin peel will be applied to the skin for a set amount of time. This may feel tingly depending on your skin sensitivity. This is removed and then followed by a soothing mask.
What can I expect after the chemical skin peel?
Chemical skin peels can result in a more youthful appearance to the skin, reducing wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, sun-damage, and brightening the skin. By means of exfoliation it is also beneficial in treating breakouts and more severe acne conditions. Following the treatment your skin may be less congested and clearer (sometimes it can draw out anything that is below the surface (purging) but this should clear quickly). You will need to wear a SPF30 minimum for 7 days, avoiding the sun for 7 days after treatment and may need to use additional moisturiser. This will be explained to you during your consultation and after care will be explained prior to your treatment.
Will my skin peel off?
The peels used are all superficial/mild. Superficial/mild peels require virtually no recovery time. You should be able to return to daily activities immediately after treatment. Sensitive skin types might notice mild flaking.
